Abstract

While CMMI may be seen by many agilists as anathema to agile, its success cannot be ignored especially in large organizations. This session is meant to give agile teams the minimun level of CMMI knowledge in order to be prepared when CMMI is considered in their organization. The ultimate question is how an agile team can turn a CMMI initiative into an opportunity.

Benefits of attending

  1. Gain basic knowledge about the CMMI model
  2. Learn from the experience of others that have successfully used CMMI in an Agile setting
  3. Learn to be prepared for when your organizations decides to start a CMMI program
  4. Learn the mutual strengths/weaknesses of CMMI-style top-down, prescriptive process improvement versus agile bottom-up adaptive improvement.

What will the organisers learn

Session Outline

After a short introduction and brief intro into the CMMI model, we will go through selected parts of the CMMI model and discuss

  1. how agile teams can fulfill the CMMI requirements
  2. to what extent the selected CMMI model part prevents or actually fosters agility. Depending on the number of attendees this can be done in sub-groups.
The session ends with a critical review.
