Improvisation - an unorthodox approach to teambuilding

- session duration: 120 min
- session type: workshop
- intended audience: everybody involved or about to become involve in agile projects

Session description:
Let's face it: running an agile project requires a lot of improvisation. No matter how hard you try to manage the unknown, people react differently from what you expected. Whether you are the customer trying to get your message across, or a coach working hard to keep the process running, or a developer pair programming - every so often, you need to improvise.
Different authors have used improvisation in performance arts as a metaphor for team work. In an improvised scene, actors use whatever ideas come up to move the story further. To this end they use some basic skills: accept what your co-players offer; have a purpose and make clear choices; be average; do not be afraid to fail; and so on. Sounds like skills that could be valuable to agile team members!
In this workshop, you will get a crash course on improvisation theatre. Starting from the various XP practices, we will play improvisation games in which the skills are rehearsed that are related to the practice. In this way, you will experience the value of the XP practices. Prepare for a lot of drama, a lot of fun, and a lot of learning!
