Description

With the help of slides, this session seeks to clarify the role of the manager in a twenty-first century agile development environment. The session looks at the skills and techniques necessary for the successful agile manager and explains their underlying theory before finishing up with a Q&A session. The participant can expect to visit every aspect of management, from recruitment of new staff, through performance and improvement to retention. The delegates will be expected to participate in business games that help explain the points made.

The role of the Agile Manager

  • Recruitment
Personnel management is one of the most serious tasks of the manager and it starts with recruitment. We examine how motivational needs affect working relationships and how to recognise the different motivations of individuals. We also look at emotional maturity and the level required to survive in the robust environments usually found in the agile workplace.
  • Performance
Performance is where the manager really comes to the forefront. We look at how agile practices help to create a culture with a shared vision and a sense of commitment for the team.
  • Improvement
An examination of how the organisational culture can affect the productivity of the team and the things that the Agile manager can do to improve it, including a look at how best to collect and interpret metrics.
  • Retention
One of the biggest problems in the software development industry is "employee churn". How do we prevent our staff from job-hopping?
